Mumbai survey officer has been directed by the Bombay High Court to verify ownership of the plot covered with illegal encroachments near Vikhroli railway station.

On October 19, the court was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Shivshankar Jatashankar Joshi seeking demolition of the illegal encroachments.

A division bench of chief justice Mohit Shah and justice Roshan Dalvi has asked the city survey officer to give specific details regarding which part of the land belongs to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), which part to the railways and whether some of it belongs to the shopping complex SJ Vinayak Arcade.

The court has also asked the BMC to verify the records and take necessary action in accordance with the law.

Geeta Joglekar, BMC advocate, informed the court that they have issued notices to all the shops adjacent to platform no. 1 at Vikhroli railway station.
