The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sanctioned an additional Rs20 crore to fill 593 potholes in the city.
The civic body had spent nearly Rs40 crore for the same purpose before the rains started.
Aseem Gupta, additional municipal commissioner, said that out of the 9,630 potholes, the BMC’s road department had filled 9,037. Now, only 593 remain.
This year, the BMC had appointed 23 private contractors to attend to potholes and bad patches in the city.
Last month, the civic body had identified 2,397 potholes, of which, it claimed that 2,112 had already been attended to.
“The BMC has three jet patcher machines, which can cover 60sq m area in a day. Along with this, the BMC has sanctioned an additional Rs20 crore for filling of the potholes,” Gupta said, adding that the civic body will blacklist the contractors if the potholes reappear.
