State Congress chief Manikrao Thakre today said here that as Shiv Sena was on the brink of extinction, NCP was the main competitor of his party in the state politics.
"Shiv Sena is now heading towards end and it would soon be finished. As such, Nationalist Congress Party is our number one competitor," Thakre said.
Relations between NCP and Congress, the ruling coalition partners, have come under strain in the last two-three days, with Congress minister Narayan Rane hitting out at Deputy Chief Minister and NCP stalwart Ajit Pawar.
Thakre said Congress would emerge victorious in the coming Municipal Corporation and Zill Parishad elections.
As to Sena, he said the saffron party, which controls Mumbai corporation, would be defeated this time.
