The Mumbai police have written a letter to the Centre advising it to bar the Pakistani judicial commission members from visiting any other place in the city except court and their hotel, citing security reasons.

Officers part of the 26/11 investigations also claimed that the entire visit is a diplomatic exercise and will not have much impact legally in the Pakistani court as cross examination is not allowed.
“Although there is no specific threat to the commission members, we had advised centre to restrict movements of the commission members citing sensitivity of the situation,” said a senior officer from the Mumbai police. The police have also provided security cover for the commission members, who would be put up at the Hotel Marine Plaza at Marine Drive. Men from the Quick Response Team of the city police will be posted at strategic locations to ensure round-the-clock safety of the commission members, sources said.

The eight-member Pakistani commission arrived in Mumbai on Thursday. They will be staying in the city till March 19. The team will record the statements of investigating officer Ramesh Mahale, Rama Waghule, additional chief metropolitan magistrate, Dr Shailesh Mohite and Dr Ganesh Nitukar.
