A total 32 CCTV cameras will monitor the Shivaji Park area on the Dr BR Ambedkar’s 54th death anniversary.

Heavy police deployment has been made in and around Dadar’s Chaityabhoomi, where Ambedkar’s last rites were performed. As lakhs of followers are expected to congregate here, restrictions have been imposed to ensure smooth traffic movement, police said.

“Our focus is on crowd control. Anti-sabotage checking will be conducted and Shivaji Park has been cordoned off. Only three gates have been kept open so that we can keep watch on people coming in and going out,” said additional commissioner of police, Central Region, Vinit Agarwal.

He added that bomb detection and disposal squad and sniffer dogs have been stationed near Chaityabhoomi. “Hand metal detectors and door-frame metal detectors will be to frisk people,” Agarwal said. The police has asked for a company of State Reserve Police Force, to be stationed near Chaityabhoomi, he added.

“Adequate measures have been taken as December 6 also marks Babri Masjid demolition. We are on high alert,” said Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjeev Dayal.

Ranade Road will be closed completely tomorrow while SVS Marg, Dnyaneshwar and Kataria roads will be partially closed, police said, adding that S Bhole road and Bhavani Shankar road will be made one-way route.

The BMC, along with the police, is leaving no stone unturned to put up an impeccable show on Monday.

Over 25% increase in the number of devotees, visiting Chaityabhoomi, is expected this year. Officials claim that around four lakhs pilgrims have already thronged Shivaji Park. But the number is expected to reach 13 lakh by Monday morning.

To house the population, the BMC has pitched tents across 1.5 lakh sq ft area. Arrangements are in place to provide both drinking and food facility.

“Improved efforts have been roped in this year. Care has been taken care to provide all necessary amenities. Mobile toilets have been put up. Also, temporary bathrooms and toilets have been put up beside the tents,” said deputy municipal commissioner KS Kshirsagar, incharge of the programme.
