A senior corporator from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manisha Ghate, is now scared to be in Pune, as she finds the city unsafe for women.

It is understandable, as this feisty woman nearly lost her mangalsutra to a couple of ruffians, who made an attempt to snatch it from her on Sinhagad Road on Saturday evening.

“I was travelling with my husband on his two-wheeler on Sinhagad Road, when suddenly two youngsters came near our bike. At first, I did not notice this, but when they came too close to our bike, I shouted and asked my husband to drive faster,” she said.
Manisha’s cries did not have any effect on the malefactors, who tried to snatch her mangalsutra.

“When they tried to snatch my mangalsutra, I pushed them back. At this unexpected reaction of mine, they lost the grip on my mangalsutra and fell on the road,” she said.

Manisha and her husband turned their vehicle towards the two men.

“Before my husband could reach the spot, the duo managed to get on the bike and fled the scene,” she said.

Manisha, who is known for her firebrand image, was shaken by this incident. “No one is safe in Pune. Women are very unsafe in the city. I will talk to the police commissioner, Meeran Chadha Borwankar, asking her to take urgent steps. I am scared in this city,” she said.
