A day after Mumbaikars left hot and dry when the temperature rose to a maximum of 39.5 degree Celsius, the yo-yoing mercury dropped by three degrees on Sunday, much to the relief of Mumbaikars.

The Santa Cruz weather bureau on Sunday recorded a maximum temperature of 36.5 degree C and a minimum of 19 degree C. In Colaba, the mercury rose to a maximum of 35.3 degree C. The minimum temperature was 24 degree C.

“On Saturday, the sea breeze had set up over Mumbai by 1:30pm. But it set up at 11:30 am, bringing moisture early to the city, leading to drop in the maximum temperature,” said Bishwombhar Singh, director (Colaba), India Meteorological Department.

The department has predicted the temperature to fall a little further if the local westerly surface wind flows to Mumbai timely. “If the sea breeze sets up early, we may see drop in temperature or else conditions will remain similar to that on Sunday,” Singh added.

The bureau has forecasted the temperature to be around 35 degree C as maximum and 21 degree C as minimum temperature.
