Adarsh Society scam: Service chiefs term Adarsh scam as aberration

The three service chiefs today said the aberration (in reference to Adarsh society scam) witnessed recently in the ranks was limited to a "minuscule part" of the armed forces and it should not influence the perception of the forces which stand firm on their values.

Air Chief Marshal PV Naik, Admiral Nirmal Verma and Gen VK Singh were interacting with the media during their visit to the National Defence Academy (NDA) at Khadakwasla near here.

In reply to a question, Air Chief Naik, without making specific mention of the Adarsha scam, said "some dirt has been thrown around. But we should not get influenced by this. Even today, the maximum repository of loyalty is the armed forces. In any strata of human endeavour, you will find a little bug".

Admiral Verma said the aberrations should not be projected as a rule.

Gen Singh said "some people do deviate and it is a minuscule part of the lot. Our message to young people is to stand firm on the values of the armed forces".

On the shortage of officers in the Army, Gen Singh said "we find methods to overcome it and ensure that cutting edge remains intact in combat operations".

Admiral Verma said coastal security had been enhanced a lot after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

It was a unique get-together of the three service chiefs at NDA, their alma mater, where they graduated as contemporaries between 1965-69, all belonging to the "Hunter" squadron.
