The anti-corruption unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probing the Adarsh scam has learned that accused K Gidwani, a former Congress MLC, had reportedly helped at least 30 civilians get flats in the society.
Sources keeping a tab on the investigation say that many of these civilians included bureaucrats and politicians, as they were offered flats in return for taking care of hindrances in the clearing of the project. “It was a well-planned move to allow civilians in the society.” added the source.
It has also been learnt from reliables sources that Gidwani came in contact with two defence personnel, MM Wanchu and RC Thakur - also accused in the case - through a Delhi-based politician.
Sources continue that Gidwani, who was also a former Congress leader, came in contact with several bureaucrats during his stint in politics, including former municipal commissioner Jairaj Pathak, who presently holds the rank of joint secretary in the central government. The CBI has mentioned Pathak as a suspect in the case, as he can be made an accused in the case only after permission from the central government.
Sources say that it was the former chief minister Ashok Chavan who during his stint with the revenue department, allowed the proposal to include civilians with the ulterior motive of making his relatives members of the society, CBI sources allege.
Sources further added that other accused in the case would be summoned from Monday onwards, including suspended chief information commissioner Ramanand Tiwari.
