In a recent drive carried out by the district election department, around 67,000 voters were included in the voters’ list. The drive was carried out in the assembly constituencies in Pune district.

The 60th National Voters’ Day was celebrated on Tuesday at the divisional commissioner’s office.

The district election department conducted the drive between January 11 and January 25. Schools, colleges and NGOs worked to create awareness in villages and cities.

Divisional commissioner Dilip Band said it is generally observed that villagers are eager to cast their franchise and include their names in the voters’ list, unlike people in the cities. “So, we took help from NGOs during the drive in the city,” he said.

As of now, around 40,000 elector’s photo identity cards (Epic) have been given to voters under the drive.
