The new director of Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), Jabbar Patel, said that within six months, 20 new television channels dedicated to various subjects in the field of education will be launched through the CEC.

The CEC was set up in 1993 for close coordination, facilitation, overall guidance and direction to the activities of the media centres set up by the UGC in various universities. This helps in dissemination of educational programmes, through both the broadcast and non-broadcast modes and production of educational programmes.

“The 24X7 Vyas channel is already there to disseminate information on various subjects through the audio visual forms and in addition to that, four Gyan Darshan channels are also there,” he said. “But there is a dire need to spread the virtual mode of education across the nation to take the education to every doorstep and every person in the country,” he said.

Patel, who is also a national award winning director, said, “The CEC planned several channels but initially it will launch 20 dedicated channels based on e-learning, virtual classrooms where audio visual lectures on various topics will be broadcast in more attractive forms by using graphics and animation.”

“We will design the lectures in such an interactive way that the shortcomings of traditional method of teaching and learning will be overcome,” Patel said.
