Around 1,400 delegates from across the country turned up for the 10th joint convention of sugar technologists organised by the Deccan Sugar Technologists Association (DSTA) and Sugar Technologists Association of India at the Pune Marriott Hotel.

An exhibition has been organised at the venue with 90 stalls showcasing technological developments in the field. The exhibits include equipment required at different production levels in sugar factories, equipment for mills, diffusers and condensers. The exhibition took off on Sunday and concludes on Tuesday.

MS Sundaram, managing director of JP Mukherji and Associates Pvt Ltd (JPMAPL), consultants and producers of special milling equipment, said, “We have been participating in this convention since its inception by the DSTA. This has been a very good platform for us as well as other players who get to come on one level and exhibit their products.”

Technical director of the company, TS Rao, said, “We get to meet a lot of technologists and understand the advancements in the industry.”

The opinion about the convention being a good platform was seconded by one of their customers, AC Pore of the sugar division of the Baramati Agro Limited. He said, “We have bought one
special equipment and the frequency of breakdown has gone down to zero.”

Shamraj Enercon Tech has also put up a stall at the exhibition. Its managing director, Jayant Marudgan, said, “An important aspect of the sugar exhibition is it allows us to connect to all the sugar industries within a span of four days without travelling much, all at one place under one roof. This is important as we get people who need our products and may not be able to find us unless we advertise or reach their industry.”

Bipinrao Kolhe, chairman of Sanjivani sugar factory at Kopargaon, who was visiting the exhibition, said, “We have a lot of technologists coming forward here at the expo and showcasing the best of their products. What I think needs to be improved is the involvement of the foreign country’s sugar technologists, that is when we will understand where we stand in the world.”
