The LT Marg police on Saturday arrested a 24-year old garment trader for allegedly possessing semi-nude photograph of his former girlfriend and threatening to put her photograph on the Internet. The suspect was forcing the victim to marry him, police said.

The arrested person has been identified as Nischay Bansal, 24, a resident of Sikka Nagar in VP Road.

According to the police, victim and Bansal had studied in same school and later in same college. They became good friends and later entered a relationship. However, families of the two were unaware about their relationship.

"In 2011, when the victim was alone at her home, she had clicked her semi-nude photograph on her mobile phone. She had not shared the said photograph with anyone though. The victim alleged in her complaint that Bansal managed to get her semi-nude photograph transferred to his phone from her phone without her knowledge," said an officer from LT Marg police station.

He added that, later Bansal showed the victim her photograph on his mobile phone. "The victim was furious at this and asked Bansal to delete the photograph immediately. This led to an argument between the two after which the victim called off the relationship with Bansal. Bansal kept asking the victim to start their relationship afresh, but the victim refused," the officer said.

In October 2013, when Bansal learnt that victim's family had fixed her marriage, he sent a threatening text message to the victim. On November 15, last year, Bansal showed the victim's photograph to her fiancé and also told him about his affair with the victim, after which the fiancé called off the marriage, police said.

"Bansal allegedly told the victim that if she again tried to fix her marriage with someone else he would again sabotage it and defame her. He kept forcing the victim to marry him. Bansal also threatened to upload victim's semi-nude photograph on the Internet. The victim informed her parents about the harassment from Bansal and got a police complaint registered against Bansal," said the officer.

The police have arrested Bansal on charges of outraging modesty of a woman under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act. The police have seized mobile phone of the victim and two mobile phones of Bansal for the purpose of investigation.
