Days after an IT professional from Vikhroli was detained by the police for downloading music and movies from torrent, young Internet download enthusiasts are now a dejected lot as the cybercrime cell and the newly-formed social media laboratory will be keeping an eye on them.

“I am sure there is a law under which downloading from the Internet is illegal but why can't they provide us with simpler and better options. Why don't they find ways to make these downloads legal? Not everything that youngsters like can be illegal,” Jyotika Ramani, an engineering student.

Marmik Mehta, 24, who is hooked on to his machine all day, said, “Is this seriously unlawful or is it a new technique of the police to earn a few quick bucks? For all you know this is something similar to what has been happening under the name of moral policing.”

Another student, who did not wished to be named, said he was very much disappointed. “How are they going to track me down? I don't download regularly but every once in a while I prefer watching movies and use torrent sites to download them. If downloading from torrent is illegal then provide us with easy options. Going to the theatre every week cannot be one of them," he said.
