Woman stays away for fear of 'ghost', hubby attacks her

A 37-year-old woman working with Boisar MIDC was attacked by her husband after she refused to live with him at their Nalasopara residence for fear of a ghost. The sister-in-law of the woman had set herself ablaze a few years ago in the same flat.

The 40-year-old man, an employee of BMC, attacked his wife and in-laws at their Boisar residence after she refused to live with him. The wife revealed that it became difficult for her to travel for work from Nalasopara and she was also afraid of the ghost at their residence in Nalasopara. Her brother-in-law was also involved in the attack. Both are absconding since the incident took place.

"The woman often came to live at her maternal house in Boisar but the husband and her brother-in-law did not approve of it. This lead to constant verbal duels between them. She was attacked with a knife," said a police officer.

"The accused husband and his brother attacked the woman and her mother in their hands, face, neck and abdomen with a knife, leading to life threatening injuries. When the woman's brother tried to settle the matter amicably, he too was attacked. They were rushed to Orbit Hospital for treatment," added the officer.

"We will arrest them soon. Meanwhile, the injured victims are out of danger. We have registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (causing grievous injuries), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code," said KS Hegaje, police inspector, Boisar police station.
