Citizens could get some reprieve in the future with respect to digging for utilities. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said the government will look to form a policy on ducts and utilities. The CM was replying to a query on question hour.

During the question hour, members of the lower house had raised queries about utilities not being shifted to Kolhapur, where road work was done sometime back. As the utilities were not moved, the underground water pipelines being as old as 25-30 years would burst open every other day, creating numerous problems. It would also lead to potholes and subsequent road repairs time and again.

As the work of shifting the utilities is of the agency that does the road job, members wanted to know what the government will be doing. Fadnavis said the state is looking to have ducts, so that the problem does not arise.

"Also, in future, if there is any project undertaken by the public works department or the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, will the government form a policy on tackling the issue of utilities?" asked Ashish Shelar, member of the house.

"We will look to have a policy on shifting of utilities in case of future projects," said Fadnavis.
