Here’s some good news for residents of the Andheri-Mira Road belt who had to trudge all the way to Wadala for issues related to their housing society. The deputy registrar of the co-operative societies office is now right in their neighbourhood.

Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan will formally inaugurate the new DR office at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation building in Kandivli (East) on Wednesday evening.

The office is the brainchild of local member of parliament Sanjay Nirupam, who has been pressing for a suburban centre for the benefit of his North Mumbai constituents.

“More than 40% of the 18 lakh voters in my constituency live in housing societies, and it was unfair on them to travel all the way to Wadala for the smallest issue regarding their society,” said Nirupam, adding that the inauguration of the office is fulfillment of one of his commitments at the time of election.

The office will deal with issues of housing societies, such as registration of society, settlement of disputes relating to membership, recovery of society dues from defaulters, redressal of grievances against management of society, conducting of elections of society, etc.

Besides, the district deputy registrar will also process applications for deemed conveyance at the new office.
