We are being maligned in Dabholkar case: Sanathan Sanstha

The Sanatan Sanstha on Wednesday stated that tweets and news that its "sadhaks" were questioned and their premises raided were meant to malign the organisation. In a press conference on Wednesday at the Devaraj Hall in Dadar, the organisation questioned how someone could "illegally" tweet about the questioning of their members even before the same had taken place.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member Ashish Khetan on Wednesday tweeted: "Agencies have cracked the case. 'Sadhaks' of Sanatan Sanstha & HJS behind Dr Dabholkar's murder identified." In the series of tweets, one also read, "CBI raid on Sanatan Sanstha's Panvel ashram near Mumbai & the house of a mastermind in Pune is underway."

Abhay Vartak, a spokesperson of the Sanstha, said: "Who is really running the CBI, we want to know. How does a person who has nothing to do with it tweet about the raids even before they are conducted?"

The Sanstha members said that one of their sadhaks, Dr Verenra Tawde, a former ENT surgeon at JJ Hospital, was questioned for over an hour at a Panvel farmhouse. Vartak said: "He has been with us for the past 15 years or more. There are several people who have been interrogated but to state that our organisation is involved ends up defaming us. Imagine the trauma that people can go through and also what the family members of our sadhaks feel."

The Sanstha members also said that Sarang Salgaonkar, the other person whose Pune home was raided, had his house broken into. "He was not at home nor were any of his family members. They have filed a case with the police," said advocate Sanjeev Punalekar of the Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad, adding that he has spoken at some point to some of the people the agencies are on the lookout for.

He also alleged that the agencies would let an accused go if they found out that he was not from the Sanstha and that targeting the Sanstha seemed to be the sole aim of the investigation. "Dabholkar's and Pansare's murders could be due to some other reason. Why is that not being investigated?" Punalekar said.
