Kalwa's graphic designer Tushar Jadhav collects old computers and hands them over to the needy
In today's world every person and organisation have to keep pace with the technological changes. Thus, throwing away your old desktops and laptops in favour of the latest model is the in-thing. But there are many in the interiors of Maharashtra who have not even seen a computer. To helps such individuals and schools to learn computers, Kalwa's Tushar Jadhav have started a website where donated old computers are given away to needy students and schools.
Jadhav (35) works as a graphic designer in a firm in Navi Mumbai and stays at Sahyadri society in Kalwa. He says the idea to put old computers to use came to him when he himself got a donated computer from Abhishek Asthana of Ahmedabad in 2008. "Asthana had this website where people who wanted to donate computers and those who needed them could place their requests. He, however, provided these computers to NGOs," he said. "In 2014, he shut down the website for personal reasons and I decided to carry forward the concept as it appealed to me," he added.
Hence, in 2015, he launched his own website www.donateyourpc.in which has till date managed to donate 100 used computers to zilla parishad (ZP) schools in Thane, Akola, etc. "Our first order was a donation of 20 computers from Jet Airways which we gave away to various schools. Even UCO bank gave us 22 monitors and personal computers which we gave to ZP schools in Thane," he said.
If the donors and those who need computers are from Mumbai, then Jadhav and his team go there to inspect the computers before giving them away. In case it is from outside Mumbai, then he has a network of NGOs which does the verification work and the needy organisation takes the delivery. "If the computers are not working, then we get them repaired to donate," he added.
The criterion to get a computer by an individual is that s/he should get it in writing from his school/college or an NGO that s/he needs a computer. Those who want to donate or get a computer can also log-in on their FB page facebook.com/donateyourpc.in.
