The Amboli police recently arrested a 26-year old aspiring Bollywood actor for allegedly mowing down two elderly women when they were returning from a temple. The arrest was made eight days after the complaint was registered.

The arrested woman has been identified as Aprajita Mahajan, who is originally from Bangalore but currently residing in the New Link Road area of Andheri.

According to complainant Samita Naik (65), on the morning on January 2, a friend and she had gone to a temple located along Andheri’s Link Road. While returning from the temple, a car hit Naik’s friend while reversing out onto the road.

“My friend fell on me and we both were injured in the accident. The driver of the car, a woman, tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended by the locals, who asked her to help us. Since my friend didn’t have that many injuries, the driver (Mahajan) dropped her to her house. I then contacted my daughter, who got me admitted in a private hospital,” said Naik in her statement.

Her daughter told dna, “My mother got seriously injured — her left thigh bone got damaged, due to which she sustained fracture. She had to undergo surgery to place a metal plate in her thigh.”

She added, “We lodged an FIR with the police the same day. We even provided them with the car’s registration number (MH 02 CW 4083) so they could track the driver down as soon as possible and arrest her. But the police delayed the matter due to unknown reasons, and tried to hide the identity of the driver from us. On January 13, after waiting for hours at the police station, they revealed who she was.”

The police had registered a case against Mahajan under sections 279 (rash driving in a manner to endanger another’s life) and 338 (causing grievous injuries) of the Indian Penal Code.
