The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Saturday raided the house of Maharashtra Wakf Board chief executive officer (CEO) ND Pathan in Nanded and caught him red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs30,000.

Deputy superintendent of police MG Pathan said that one Shaikh Kareem filed a complaint with the ACB on Saturday, stating that he had taken a farm land of Wakf Board at Degaon Chawl on lease for three years. After the lease period was over, Kareem applied for an extension. However, the CEO demanded a bribe of Rs1.5 lakh for extending the lease.

Pathan told Kareem to pay the amount in three instalments and Kareem managed to pay Rs50,000 to Pathan last month.

However, Pathan was harassing Kareem for paying  the remaining amount forthwith. Unable to pay the amount, he approached the Crime Branch, which laid a trap. The ACB team caught Pathan red-handed while accepting the bribe from Kareem. Pathan’s Aurangabad office was also searched on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Baba Jani, a member of the Wakf Board, on Sunday told the media that Pathan was involved in corruption. He had issued several non-objection certificates (NOC) to builders in Mumbai illegally.
