Two persons have been arrested by the Virar police for allegedly murdering a father-son duo.
According to Virar police, Chandrakant Kargal and his son Harsh, 10, had gone missing on September 26 evening. Kargal had gone to Harsh' school to pick him up. After they did not return home, Kargal's wife Sumitra had lodged a missing persons complaint with the police.
The same afternoon, Harsh's body was found in a pond in Virar (E). A day later, Kargal's body was found in a nullah at Virar (W). Faces of the father-son duo were covered in a duct tape. The police then registered a murder case and began their probe.
The police later detained estate agent, Vishnu Patil, 35 and his friend Monu Sahani, 20, a mechanic in the case.
During questioning they revealed that they had picked up Kargal and Harsh from outside the school and took them along on the pretext of showing them a MHADA flat.
While Harsh was made to sit in a car, the duo took Kargal to a flat and strangulated him to death and gagged his mouth with a duct tape. Then they took Harsh to the pond and killed him in a similar manner and later dumped his body and fled. Next day, they disposed of Kargal's body in a nullah.
Manjunath Singe, Superintendent of Police, Palghar District, said, "We have arrested the duo under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destroying evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. Kargal had given Rs 12 lakh to Patil which he was unable to repay. Patil then hatched a plan to eliminate Kargal and since Harsh was along, they had killed him too, so that no witness is left behind. Sahani gave a car to Patil to ferry Kargal and dump the bodies"
