A 47-year-old Vile Parle resident was found murdered at her home on Thursday afternoon. According to the police, she was stabbed with a sharp weapon, and the house was ransacked. They suspect that valuables worth lakhs are missing from the house.

The deceased was identified as Vimla Ben Kariya. She lived on a third-floor flat of Sapna Building in Kankuwadi area of Vile Parle (E). She is is survived by her husband Nagjibhai, two sons, and a married daughter.

The incident came to light around noon when Kariya's maid came for work. "Despite repeated knocks, there was no response from inside. The maid suspected something foul and sought help of the neighbours. One of the neighbours then managed to open the door. Inside, they found Kariya lying in a pool of blood," said an officer from the Vile Parle police station.

He added that Kariya's injuries suggested she was attacked with a sharp weapon. "The locals informed the police, and Kariya's body was taken to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem. At the time of the incident, Nagjibhai was at his Borivli-based stationery shop and the sons were also at work. The house was ransacked and we suspect robbery. Further investigation is on," the officer said.

Since there is no CCTV camera at Sapna Building, the police are taking help of cameras of nearby buildings to get some clue into the case.
