Your drive on the city's Western (WUR) and Eastern Urban Roads (EUR) is set to get bumpier owing to the new potholes on both roads. After the heavy rainfall on Monday night and Tuesday, new pothole spots have emerged on both the crucial roads that connect the city to western and central suburbs.
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has said that it is in the process of filling them up but would require a dry spell for filling the potholes.
On Wednesday, officials from the traffic department and MMRDA conducted a joint visit to the roads to identify the repair work required to keep traffic on both roads smooth.
A senior MMRDA official said, "We have identified around 10 stretches on the Eastern Urban Road wherein new potholes have emerged. Our contractor is already in the process of filling them up considering the availability of a dry spell."
On Western Urban Road too, several new stretches have been identified and MMRDA claims to have started the work for filling up these potholes.
Jointly, MMRDA has filled close to 1,000 potholes on both the roads since the beginning of the monsoon, according to MMRDA.
Both these roads were handed over to MMRDA by Public Works Department in April. The move was prompted by a Supreme Court ruling that banned the sale of alcohol within 500 metres of state and national highways.
