Clarifying that his son Unmesh Raote was not involved in any drink and drive case as per claims on the social media, Diwakar Raote on Wednesday said that being the transport minister, he made sure that his son was fined for arguing with a police officer.

It was on Tuesday night that Unmesh was stopped for routine check for drink and drive by the police. After checking his licence, according to the minister, his son was asked by the police officers as to what relations he had with the minister? Unmesh argued with the policeman and told him that if they wanted to check his licence, what business did he have to ask who his father was?

Raote clarified that his son was allowed to leave by the police since the checking was over and as he was not drunk. Raote said that there were four youngsters who were caught for drink driving and it was they who spread things about his son through WhatsApp stating that Unmesh was released even after being caught in a drink-driving case. Raote showed media persons the receipt of fine amount paid by his son to the police.

When contacted, the Mumbai police spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni said: "There was some problem on Tuesday night with Unmesh Raote and the police officer and Unmesh have been charged with section 110 of Bombay Police Act."
