University of Mumbai saga: August 15 is here, results are not

The University of Mumbai will miss yet another deadline on August 15, with close to 140 results yet to be declared until Monday.

The University will not meet the deadline given by V-C Dr Sanjay Deshmukh, now on a forced leave, to the members of Yuva Sena, as results of streams such as commerce, law, and arts are yet to be declared. Over 1.5 lakh answer sheets are to be evaluated and over 50,000 papers pending moderation.

"With the current pace of evaluation, commerce results — that are a major chunk of the total pending papers —are likely to be delayed until the end of the month. While evaluation work of some streams is almost over, reconciliation of these results is taking time," said a university official. The university has already missed two previous deadlines — July 5 and August 5.

Teachers are worried about completing the portion, as the academic year would commence late. "If results come by August-end, classes for masters won't begin until September. We will have just over a month to cover the portion until the first semester exams," said a senior faculty member.

Monday saw a large number of students queue up at the Kalina campus for their confidential results. Students said that they were asked to wait for long despite the urgency to submit results. Acting VC Devanand Shinde, who took charge on August 9, said that the MU has formed a task force to speed up the process of providing confidential results to students who need to go to other universities for further studies.
