Two women commuters in the city raised issues against Uber drivers on the social media in the past 24 hours. In one of the cases, the woman also approached the police and got the errant driver arrested.

One of the friends of a 32-year-old foreign national had written a post on her Facebook profile on August 18, stating that the night before, her friend (victim) had booked an Uber cab from Pali Hill for Seven Bungalow, Andheri.

The post read: "He (driver) complained about low visibility through his back windscreen and told her he was going to pull over to clean it. She was very uncomfortable but allowed him to stop to clean the screen. She was surprised when he came to the rear seat under the pretext of cleaning the windscreen from inside. The man proceeded to put his hand on her thigh. She panicked and only when she started shouting at him did he move off her and go back to his seat. She managed to jump off and get home safely."

The victim later informed her friend about the incident and got a complaint lodged with the Santa Cruz police. "The police arrested Uber driver Shehbaaz and booked him," said deputy commissioner of police Ashok Dudhe.

In the second case, the woman wrote a post on Facebook on Friday, stating: "Two days ago (on August 17), I was in an ?Uber? cab and the driver took a wrong turn. When I questioned him, he started to yell at me… I angrily asked him why he wasn't using his navigator, he stopped his car in the middle of the road, stopped the trip and told me to get out. I refused."

In an email response to the incidents, Uber said: "The driver involved in case of the foreign national was suspended immediately after we got to know about this incident. Other than checking driving fitness documents like licence, insurance etcetera and police verification, our drivers also undergo additional background checks. They are also imparted soft skill training at our partner support centre. Safety is of utmost importance for Uber. There is 24/7 email support for riders and round-the-clock phone support for drivers. Apart from this, when the 'Help' button in the app is pressed, it connects the rider to the police immediately and also alerts Uber's Incident Response Team, which gets in touch with the rider within minutes."

In December 2014, Shiv Kumar Yadav (32), an Uber driver in Delhi, had raped a 27-year-old executive in his car when she had dozed off in the backseat on her way home from a dinner party in Gurgaon. Yadav has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
