Two BMC officials booked for molesting RTI 'activist'

The Pantnagar police have registered a case of molestation against two Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials after which a Right To Information 'activist' complained to the police. On Wednesday, BMC officials from Ghatkopar protested outside the police station and demanded the complaint be taken back by the police.

According to Pantnagar police, a 35 year old woman from Kamraj Nagar in Ghatkopar had visited the N ward office of the BMC to collect the information requested by her through the RTI query which led to a ruckus. The two BMC officials also complained to the police that the RTI 'activist' manhandled the officials and created ruckus.

"We have booked the woman under section 353(assaulting or obstructing a public servant from conducting duty), 504(intentional insult) and 506(criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code", said a senior police officer from Pantnagar police station.

"After the BMC officials filed the complained, the woman alleged that she was molested inside the BMC office and we registered a case under sections 354(molestation), 506(criminal intimidation) and 509(word, gesture act intended to outrage the modesty of women) of the Indian Penal Code.", said the officer.

"We are probing the claims of both the parties and after registering the cross complaint, we registered the case and we are investigating further.", said the officer.
