TV studio gutted in fire at Kanjurmarg

In a major fire that broke out at a television serial set at Cinevista studio along the LBS Marg in Kanjurmarg on Saturday evening gutted the studio completely. However, no one was injured in the fire despite 150 people present inside the set when the fire broke out. This is the fourth fire incident in the city, in the last nine days.

According to an official from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the fire broke out around 7.30 pm during the shoot for a television serial. "We received the fire call around 8.07 pm and it was level II, and later it increased to level III as the intensity of the fire increased," said Deputy chief fire officer, K V Hiewale.

The official added that fire was confined to ground plus one storey that gutted the electric wiring, studio instruments among other damages. The fire spread over a 3,000 sq ft area. Rajesh Gupta, a crew member, said that the TV shoot had just resumed after a tea break around 8 pm when he heard about the fire. "I was going to help a cameraman when I heard people screaming about the fire and running out from the studio," said Gupta, a camera attendant. He added that he first took protection under a pool board (game board) and later broke a glass to get out of the studio.

According to Gupta, another crew member, Ghopi, was also with him when he was rushing out of the studio, but his hand slipped. There are no whereabouts of him. "There was smoke and he was not able to see," said Gupta.

However, neither the fire officials nor the police confirmed about anyone trapped inside. A total eight fire engines, six water tankers and one ambulance was present to douse the fire.
