A trap laid out by the Mumbai Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for a police inspector attached to the Versova police station failed on Friday night. The trap was laid after self proclaimed doctor, Munir Khan's son approached the ACB with a complaint alleging the inspector had reportedly demanded money.

"After we received the complaint we verified the facts and laid a trap but somehow the suspect got alerted and he did not come to the decided spot to receive the bribe money," said an ACB officer on conditions of anonymity. "We are verifying the transcript of the recording and taking legal opinion in the matter and based on that we will take further action against the concerned officer," the ACB officer added.

Khan was previously arrested by Versova police in 2010 for allegedly cheating over 100 people for selling his medicine 'Body Revival,' claiming to cure cancer, diabetes and a host of other ailments.

The state-run Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approached the Versova police on Friday to register an FIR against Khan stating that he had restarted his business and was openly advertising his quack formulations including a medicine 'Body Revival,' claiming to cure cancer, diabetes and other ailments, on a television channel. FDA official told the police that Khan didn't have any medical degree and that he was cheating people.

However, senior police inspector, H Parmale of the Versova police station said, "We are investigating the allegations and as of now no arrests have been made."

The medicine was priced at Rs 16,000 for 100 ml bottle. Khan who was absconding since a year, surrendered to police in 2010. Khan's advertisements on TV channels regarding his medicine featured him with yesteryear television actor Tabassum. The actor had also intervened in the case, saying Khan had misled her into appearing for advertisements with him. In 2009, Khan's clinic at Versova was raided by the FDA.
