Transgender's house broken into at Nalasopara, Rs3.7 lakh stolen

An apartment belonging to a transgender in Nalasopara was on Wednesday morning burgled by an unknown miscreant or several. Cash and ornaments worth 3.7 lakh were stolen. Anwari Khala Shaikh has worked in more than 10 films as a eunuch.

Shaikh, 52, resident of Jivdani Apartments in Laxmi Nagar, Nalasopara East, was out for work at the time of the break-in. Shaikh, who has two flats in the same residential building, reported the incident to Tulinj police. Shaikh lived in Malad, and shifted to Nalasopara 10 years ago. She gives lessons from the Quran to students.

Shaikh claimed to have stopped begging and to have transformed her life by working as a side actor. "I have acted in many films as a eunuch, and I also go along with my friends to celebrate the births of babies. I never beg and I give students Quran lessons. The money and jewellery which I lost was my hard earned savings," said Shaikh.

Confirming the incident, the Nalasopara police said they have have registered a case of house breaking and theft, and are probing the case.
