The Dongri police have arrested a 21-year-old trailer driver for his involvement in a hit-and-run at PD Mello Road on Saturday, in which a 28-year-old woman died and her husband was injured.

According to the police, Anita Singh was riding pillion with her husband Rajesh on their Activa scooter along Dongri's PD Mello road when the two-wheeler accidentally hit a huge trailer, driven by Wadi Bunder resident Abdul Azim Sohail Ahmed Khan, from behind. The impact was such that Anita was flung off the scooter and onto the road, and was run over by the trailer's rear tyres, while Rajesh fell on the other side. Anita suffered severe head injuries and allegedly died on the spot. Rajesh sustained minor injury, for which he was treated at JJ hospital.

"After the collision, Khan stopped his trailer at some distance from the spot and fled fearing mob fury. He was arrested after we traced his address," said an officer from Dongri police station.

Khan has been booked under sections 279 (rash driving in manner to endanger other's life), 337 (endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
