Colaba residents have been complaining about the traffic department’s apathy in the area which is home to several landmarks and VIP movement. They claim the department’s officials have failed to address issues raised by residents, and follow-ups have elicited little response.

“In May, my 82-year-old father met with an accident when a vehicle was coming from a no entry point. On that very day we met the joint commissioner of police (traffic). But motorists continue to speed in one-way and no entry roads,” said Subhash Motwani, president, Clean Heritage Colaba Residents’ Association (CHCRA).

Motwani and other residents sought better traffic discipline in the area’s one-way roads by ensuring that constables strictly implement rules, no entry and other sign boards are prominently placed, got rid of double and illegal parking, and installed bollards to discourage parking in the area.

“The congestion caused by double parking in the lane is a hazard for buildings in the area in case of an emergency,” said Pervez Cooper, vice president, CHCRA.

“After initial bandobast, things have gone back to old ways,” said Motwani.

However, Ajay Kshirsagar, traffic inspector, Colaba division said, “We keep taking action. There is not as much problem as some are making it out to be.”
