The city traffic police in association with various orgnisations have launched a mobile application named 'Street smart- Street safe' to help citizens on roads. Through this app, citizens can avail of various facilities like emergency contacts in case of danger, women safety measures, travelling convenience etc.
The launch of the traffic app was highlighted with the support of google maps. "'The application will warn users and drivers about heavily congested areas and suggests alternate routes. Keeping in mind the importance of making roads safer for women drivers, the app will feature a one click emergency alert which will signal the driver's three pre-decided contacts, with the drivers' last known location," said Arvind Singhatiya, vice president of corporate affairs, OLA. Additionally, the app will also feature traffic guidelines and information about fines for varying violations.
A team of traffic police is also being working upon a traffic safety campaign with Bollywood celebrities like Mandira Bedi and Suneil Shetty as the its brand ambassador.
The first week of the campaign will focus on decongesting the streets by encouraging car pooling and use of public transport. In the following weeks, efforts will be put towards creating awareness about basic traffic rules, women drivers' safety and curbing noise pollution. In their commitment to the cause, Milind Bharambe, joint commissioner police (traffic), Deepak Lamba, CEO of Worldwide Media and Jayant Maheshkar, managing director, MEP Infra along with top civic official and businessmen like Sheila Salil, DCP (Crime Against Women's Cell), Balachandran, deputy commissioner (transport), Amit Sagar, national sales head of passenger vehicle business unit, Tata Motors Limited, Girish Karkera, editor of TopGear India magazine and Arvind Singhatiya attended the conference.
