A day after the administration at Mumbai's Tata Institute of Social Sciences called the police, alleging vandalism by students, the institute went a step ahead and sent a legal notice to protesting students on Tuesday.

Students got a copy of the legal suit filed by the institute against them. They will be attending a hearing in the Bombay High Court today. At the same time, students were also issued a notice, asking them to 'refrain from unlawful actions' and threatening action.

"The situation in the campus continues to deteriorate because of your agitating behaviour to the extent of illegally entering office spaces, blocking staff from entering their work spaces, holding people hostage, indulging in noisy demonstrations and disturbing the work environment on the campus... You are by this final notice immediately called upon to stop your illegal activities, failing which, you shall be solely responsible for the consequences," read the notice.

Students said that they were merely asking for answers to their questions regarding the demands made about fee waivers for future batches of SC/ST/OBC students. "We have gheraoed the admin block because the administration has not met us since March 23, despite asking them several times. The administration prefers pulling students to court instead of having a conversation on issues. We will respond to all the false allegations in court," said Fahad Ahmed, general secretary of the students union.

The student protest at the institute entered the 35th day on Tuesday and students said that they would continue with the protest until their demands are met with.
