The Marine Drive police on Sunday booked an NC against three Victoria Carriage owners after they received information that their horses were kept in a bad condition and were wounded too.The police seized these Victorias from Netaji Subhash Marg. The horses were sent to the The Bombay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals hospital, Parel. Till now, nine horses have been seized by the Mumbai Traffic Police.

This raid was done with help of Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Dr Manilal Valliyate, director of veterinary affairs for PETA, alleges that,“The seized horses are malnourished, suffering from multiple fresh wounds on their bodies that were deliberately hidden with black material, painful arthritis, cracked hooves and were not fitted with shoes, because of which their soles were worn down, predisposing them to the painful foot conditions such as laminitis (inflammation of sensitive membrane inside the hoof).”
According to the Vice Chairman of AWBI, Dr. Chinni Krishna, “These horses were in a very bad condition and needed immidiate medical treatment hence, they were sent to the hospital.”
Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Milind Bharambe speaking about the issue said, “The horse were seized because they were in a bad condition and they were illegally kept, hence, this action was taken.”
