Thane Fire Brigade dept aims to purchase Fire fighting robot

As Thane transforms itself into a Smart City, the fire brigade department is upgrading through technology. The department will study and conduct the survey in the city as they aim to purchase fire fighting robots. A team of experts will study the technicalities and put up a proposal for clearance.

Thane has seen major fire incidents due to gas leakage and cylinder blasts. With increasing population and new housing projects, the population is expected to grow three-fold till 2020 which would call for hi-tech fire fighting equipments.

Currently, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC ) fire brigade department has a fire fighting robot. One such machine would cost Rs 1.4 crores an dis remote controlled.

"The robot will minimize the casualties incase of wild fires in the high rises.We plan to purchase robots keeping in mind the smart city project," said a senior civic official.

"We plan to conduct a survey regarding the technicalities of the robot, taking into consideration its maintenance and requirements," said AP Mandake, chief fire officer, TMC fire brigade department.
