A 10-year-old boy was allegedly kidnapped and killed on Thursday after the Thane police failed to nab the kidnappers. He was dumped in a river in Murbad taluka. The police claimed that the child was killed after they caught the person who had come to collect the ransom of Rs15 lakh as the other accused got scared. The kidnappers had told the boy's father to drop the money on the railway tracks between Titwala and Ambivali stations.

Family members of the deceased, Nayan Jain, a Kalyan resident, said they made a mistake informing the police and that had they not the boy would still have been alive.

After the accused were caught, the police were taken to the spot where the body was. The culprits are Rajendra More, a former employee in the firm run by Nayan's father Santosh, one Vijay Dube and another identified as Kushwaha.

"We have arrested the three who led us to the boy's body," said an officer from Bazarpeth police station in Kalyan. "The kidnappers were afraid as the boy knew them well. Hence, they decided to kill him. Their plan was to take the cash and escape."

An audio recording, which is with dna, of Santosh and the kidnappers in conversation, states: "Tumhara bachcha mere paas hai. Police ko complain diya toh bachche ki laash milegi", asking him to give Rs15 lakh as ransom.
A case of kidnapping for ransom and murder along with common intent has been registered against the accused under sections of the Indian Penal Code.
