For the past five months, Shri Govind Balmandir Madhyamik Shala in Ambevadi, Andheri (E) has been seeing a flurry of activity and excitement among its students; the reason can be seen in the entry of a motley set of volunteers into the school.

Since the beginning of this academic year i.e. July 2014, a group of five-seven volunteers under the aegis of Sreekala Ravindran (of the World Confederation of Warriers) has been teaching English to the children studying at Shri Govind School. Says Ravindran, "Under the banner of the World Confederation of Warriers (WCW), we have been working with this school to improve the educational infrastructure available to the students. Recently, with the aid of our members and well-wishers, we were able to donate computers. This has helped us establish a fully-functional computer lab at the school."

Volunteers under the programme are a varied set indeed. Some like Ravindran herself are retired and now find joy in community-building initiatives such as this, and yet others include students and working professionals.

Speaking about the impact of this engagement, Dayanand Sawant, honorary Secretary of Shri Govind Balmandir Madhyamik Shikshan Sansthan, says, "We have seen the change in the attitude of our children since these classes have begun; the confidence in them is evident. With the renewed vigour and the facilities provided by WCW (such as the computer lab), we are soon going to launch an Innovation Centre within our premises, where we will encourage children who have a scientific bent of mind."

But that's not all! Ravindran explains, "Next on our plan are two things—an eye check-up camp and an educational tour to a convenient location. We are guided by the energetic 78-year-young T. V. Ramachandran, the All-India President of our organisation. Under his guidance, we hope to bring more schools such as Shri Govind School under our programme."

As of now, students numbering 30–50 per class enjoy spoken English with the help of teaching aids such as stories, plays and presentations.
