One of the top 10 marathons in the world concluded in the city on Sunday, leaving some 46,000 people who had pariticpated in it breathless in excietment.

The Tata Mumbai Marathon, said to be the biggest in the continent, was flagged off by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Boxer Mary Kom was among a host of popular faces who put on their running shoes for the 16th edition of the race.

The city’s roads were pulsating with the spirit of runners  — from those who attempted the full marathon (42.2 km) to the differently abled who attempted a 2.1 km run. In between were the half marathon, a run for senior citizens (4.7 km) and the newly added ‘open 10K’ run category.  As always, the dream run (6.6 km) saw the most number of participants.

While some of the runners were in it to test their will, others wanted an adrenaline rush. Still others  just wanted to be part of the mega event.

But there were many who ran for causes close to their heart: #MeToo, organ donation, child education and casting the ballot.

The marathon also saw 14 people being hospitalised.
