The Mumbai crime branch is likely to file a charge sheet today in the rape case registered against deputy inspector general (DIG) Sunil Paraskar. The charge sheet will be submitted eight months after the offence was registered against him by an aspiring model.

According to sources in the Mumbai crime branch, the investigating officer was asked to speed up the process of preparing the charge sheet after the alleged rape of a small time model at Sakinaka in which three policemen were arrested.

“The charge sheet will be more than 1,000 pages long, and has statements of 52 eyewitnesses,” said a source from the Mumbai crime branch, adding: “We have also incorporated other technical evidence which will make our case strong.”

A small time model had last year registered an FIR against Paraskar for raping her twice. The Mumbai crime branch investigating the case had recorded the woman's and the officer's statements. “One of the things that will go against Paraskar is him declining to undergo the polygraph and lie detector test,” asserted the officer.

The Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria said: “We are preparing the charge sheet and it will be filed soon; I can't share any other details.”
