The Tilak Education Society's Vashi English High School, along with the Maharashtra State Road Safety Mission asked students to prepare posters that highlight the importance of road awareness. All the children were very eager to participate, and around 400 students within the school were busy drawing and painting their ideas on Monday morning.

"Road safety is the need of the hour, children start driving even before they come of age, and many of them are very rash drivers. It is essential to instil road safety habits at this age itself, as this will help them to be more responsible. Children were very keen on preparing the posters, we divided them into junior and senior groups. They were explained about the various points that need to be focused on the roads, by pedestrians as well as drivers," said Jessy Joseph, principal of Tilak Education Society's Vashi English High School.

Many children got together to make posters with messages, while few others were busy drawing and painting. Most of them focused on being alert about signals, while the rest of them highlighted the issues like wearing seat belts or helmets, to not talk on the phone while driving and following signals. "We have heard about many incidents of rash driving or hit and run cases, these are a cause for concern as we should be sensitive about other citizens as well, who are using the road. Hence, to highlight the issues people face, we drew images of rash driving, accidents and road ignorance." said Madhavi Naik, one of the students.

Around 250 posters, with messages and drawings were collected by the teachers. Members from the state's road safety mission will be giving out prizes for the three best posters. The rest of the posters are displayed at various places. "We have chosen few posters to be displayed within our school's art gallery and few others will be put up during our annual day or any other such events, as it will help create more awareness. These paintings itself has led to awareness amongst these students who participated," said Joseph.
