Durgesh Tepan, the 16-year-old resident of Bandra's Nirmal Nagar who allegedly committed suicide for not getting admission for first year junior college (FYJC) on Wednesday night, was allotted college twice, claim education department officials.

As many students were upset for not getting admission in a college of their choice or in colleges near their residence, deputy director of school education department BB Chauhan extended the dates and kept special rounds of admissions. Durgesh would have again got a chance to apply for online admission for his choice of college.

"Durgesh was allotted a seat in the first round of online admission process in Dadar Vidya Mandir junior college. He was again allotted his own school attached to Indian Education Society's junior college at Bandra in the third merit list. He had put in this college as second preference out of the 35 colleges mentioned in his application. But he did not confirm those seats. If he wanted, he could have again applied for another college in the special round of online FYJC admission process."

Students who wish to change their preference of college, medium or faculty are supposed to collect login IDs and passwords from the guidance centres to participate in the special round of online admission process that will start on August 8 and 9.

Students whose names will come in the merit list on August 11 can take admission on August 12 and 13.
