A 22-year-old college student approached Charkop police on Thursday alleging that she was abducted by unknown persons in a van and one of her abductors tried to sexually assault her. She further claimed that she was dropped near Madh in Malad after which she approached the police.
According to the police, the victim is a resident of Charkop. Around 7.30 am, when she had just stepped out of her residential society, three persons who were waiting inside a parked Maruti Eeco dragged her inside and drove ahead.
As per the victim, they gagged her to prevent her from raising an alarm. “The victim claimed that one of her abductors attempted to sexually assault her after the vehicle was stopped at an isolated place. She claimed she was later thrown out of the moving vehicle near Madh,” said a police officer. The girl claimed she pelted stones at the car after she was thrown but the car sped away, the official added. “The girl also claimed that one of the abductors kept on telling her to stay away from him.”
The police are verifying the victim’s claims. “As per the victim, few people saw her being abducted and she also shouted for help. However, till evening nobody approached the police informing about the incident. Nobody made any calls to the police control room about the incident,” said a police officer. “We have registered a case of rape and kidnapping in the matter under sections of the Indian Penal Code and are probing further,” said Additional Commissioner of Police, North Region, Rajesh Pradhan.
