A 14-year-old student was arrested by the Dindoshi police after he allegedly slashed a senior boy on the neck with a sharpener blade in Malad East. The incident happened around 10 am on Monday at Fatima Devi English School, a government-aided institute, when the accused got into a tiff with the victim, Nishant Shukla.

According to the police, two days ago, the accused, a Std VIII student, had allegedly got into an minor fight with a few boys in the school and Shukla, a Std VIII student, intervened. "When Shukla interfered, it did not go down well with the accused. He threatened him of dire consequences and said he will deal with him later," said Subhash Dafle, senior inspector of Dindoshi police station.

On Monday, during recess, the accused and Shukla allegedly got into a heated argument, which escalated to a fist fight. It soon got out of control and students around were unable to intervene. "The accused pulled out a sharpener blade from his bag and slashed Shukla on the right side of his neck. The boy started bleeding profusely after which the school authorities rushed him to Suchak Hospital in Malad East," said Dafle.

The Dindoshi police was informed about the incident after which a case of attempt to murder under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code was registered. The accused has been taken into custody and sent to Juvenile home. "Shukla is currently out of danger. We will be recording his statements once his condition becomes stable. We have taken the statements of students and school authorities," said Dafle.

Nishant Shukla said he only tried to sort out a fight between his friend and the boy. "I did not allow him to fight with my friend that is why he was angry with me. His elder brother who studies in Std IX was also present at the spot when he attacked me."

Shukla lives in Rani Sati Road in Malad East and his father owns a medical store. "We are verifying more details about the accused. He does not have any previous records. He has been sent to the juvenile home after preliminary investigations," added Dafle.

A source from the school said the attacker is notorious boy, while Shukla is very studious. "The school is unaware of the circumstances that led to the Std VIII student assaulting the senior. We handed over the boy to police after the incident. Now the education department and police will decide what to do with this Std VIII student."

Suresh Shukla, father of the victim, said, "The school had removed the boy from Std VII because of his mischiefs, again took him back in Std VIII. I don't understand why the school gave admission to such a student."
