The Bombay high court on Monday directed the Maharashtra government to issue a notification to enable formation of a committee to deal with allegations of medical negligence at state-run to hospitals. The court has asked the state to comply with its order by March 31.

The directive came during the hearing of a case wherein three policemen had allegedly assaulted a doctor at Solapur government hospital for allegedly not attending to a woman in labour. Advocate PA Pol appearing for the woman, Jainubi Pirzade and her husband Sulaiman, said Jainubi was not given proper treatment and, hence, they were seeking action against the hospital.
