While the first case in the state under the newly introduced Maharashtra Prohibition of People from Social Boycott (Prevention Prohibition and Redressal) Act was registered in Pune on Monday, over 10 city-based complainants, who have been facing social boycott issues will be filing their cases soon.

Avinash Patil, Executive President of Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS), said, "There are approximately over 10 cases in Mumbai waiting for the government to introduce this law so that they can file complaints against the people and groups trying to boycott them socially. From next week onwards, cases will be filed."

The first case under this act in the state was filed by 11 complainants in Pune against 17 committee members of Pune Telugu Modelvar Parit Samaj.

Celebrating the success of the introduction of the new law in Maharashtra, MANS will launch an awareness drive about the law - Maharashtra Prohibition of People from Social Boycott (Prevention Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2016. From July 20 to August 20, 'Jawaab Do' — a month long campaign — will be initiated to draw the state and central government's attention on the delay in the probe of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar's murder case.

"The state has become the first in India to have a law under which those imposing social boycott on groups or individuals in the name of jat (caste) panchayat will be punished. During the campaign, we will approach different elected representatives to question them about raising the issue on delay in Dabholkar's murder case. It has been proved that they were not killed for personal reasons. It looks like the government has political willingness to delay the case."
