Despite receiving several letters from south zone education inspector, warning de-recognition for collecting enormous amount of money from parents under the name of building fund, St Joseph High School, Agripada, continues to function without any hassles.

The education department gave a warning letter in March 2013 to the trust of St Joseph and also the school principal to stop collecting the illegal school building fund of Rs1,800 from every student. The school, however, ignored the warning. In another letter in April 2013, the department asked the school to return the collected funds, amounting to more than Rs40 lakh from 2010-2011 to 2012-2013, failing which it would remove the principal.

Forum For Fairness in Education president Jayant Jain, said, "There is a capitation fee Act, but government has not implemented it properly. Hence, when a parent goes to police station to file a complaint, officers don't know under which section the school should be booked for taking donations."

"Our education inspector visited the school yesterday. We will take our action once the Anti-Corruption Bureau finishes its inquiry," said NB Chavan, deputy director, school education department.
