The wait is finally over as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Monday that the Southwest Monsoon has reached Mumbai. In fact, while in 2016 there was a delay of 10 days from the normal date of arrival on June 10, this year the delay is just of two days.

IMD officials confirmed that the monsoon had not only arrived in Mumbai, but also parts of Gujarat. "Southwest Monsoon on Monday has advanced into remaining parts of Central Arabian sea, Konkan, North interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, some parts of north Arabian sea and Gujarat region as well as parts of Madhya Maharashtra and some parts of Marathwada," said an IMD official.

The Regional IMD Mumbai has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in Mumbai city as well as suburbs for the next 24 hours. On Monday the maximum temperature recorded at Colaba was 31.0 degree Celsius while that at Santacruz was 31.9 degree Celsius and rainfall till 5.30pm was Nil.

However, IMD officials claimed that rainfall so far had been good. "From June 1, Colaba has recorded 188 mm rainfall while Santacruz has recorded 151 mm of rains and both are above normal."

Meanwhile like every monsoons several citizens have created special groups on social media to keep a watch on the flooding and other issues like traffic jams across Mumbai to help with information and help.
