The Bombay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals including The Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit hospital for Animals is a 130-year-old veterinary hospital and one of the biggest hospitals in South Mumbai, which also includes a veterinary college.

The Bombay SPCA with its 3-acre land is well maintained and divided into various sections that accommodate and treat stray and ownerless animals. On any given day, you will find cats, dogs, cattle, horses, donkeys and monkeys here. Dr. Mayur Dangar, Manager of Bombay SPCA, says, "We provide facilities that any animal may require. We are a team of 105 permanent and 35 temporary workers. We have four to eight doctors in each department."

The hospital not only accommodates and treats animals but also pampers them. It includes a 'My Pet Ward' that allows owners to stay with their pets. Along with five regular ambulances and three bigger ambulances to accommodate large animals, they also house an AC unit for animals that require a cold environment. The hospital has upgraded its infrastructure to include new digital X-ray machines, gaseous anaesthesia, etc., to improve their methods of treatment. A chemist shop is also available within the premises. More importantly, the hospital has an Intensive Care Unit, blood bank and an electric crematorium.
Dr. G. S. Khandekar, Associate Professor of Radiology & Surgery, says, "We give free accommodation to street animals; we have around 200–220 dogs on our campus. If we are informed about any cruelty against an animal, we take the necessary action immediately. Our primary aim is to sustain and protect this heritage institution," adds Dangar.
Even Sheru, the survivor stray dog of the CST attack on 26/11, is cared for by Bombay SPCA.
